Most of us are pretty switched on about what we put in our bodies. We read food labels, we check skincare ingredients, we care. But when it comes to what we're spraying into the air in our homes every day - the room sprays, the candles, the diffusers - most people haven't thought twice.
Here's what's worth knowing...
A number of chemicals commonly used in conventional home fragrance - phthalates, parabens and longevity enhancers are classified as endocrine disruptors. They interfere with the body's hormone system and can trigger allergies. A lot of brands utilise these to enhance the longevity of the fragrance and on labelling many brands hide behind blanket terms like 'parfum'.
How we think about it at KŌDŌ
Whilst our ingredients list does say 'parfum' our formula is the difference, as it's what that parfum contains. Every fragrance molecule in KŌDŌ is intentionally selected. Phthalates, parabens, hormone disruptors, and chemical extenders are all on our blacklist. They're not in our products. Not because we needed to cut corners, but because we don't believe you should have to choose between a home that smells incredible and one that supports your wellbeing.
So next time you're burning a candle or choosing a diffuser, consider opting for a low-toxic alternative.
